“We Knew That Was the Place to Go”

This photo was taken during the Easter holidays in Lucky Bay. I’d been living in Perth with my boyfriend for four months before we decided to rent a car and hit the road. We desperately wanted to meet kangaroos and we’d seen so many pictures of them in Lucky Bay that we knew that was the place to go.

We got to Cape Le Grand National Park on a cool Easter Saturday morning and headed straight to Lucky Bay. We walked up and down the beach for a couple of hours searching for the roos, but they were nowhere to be seen. I remember returning to the parking lot, having almost given up, when my boyfriend said “would you believe me if I tell you that I’m seeing a kangaroo? No, wait, two… no, wait, I think there are like five!”

We ran over to meet them. I was amazed by how many kangaroos we were seeing, wandering around and eating the seaweed on the beach. In that moment I felt so happy! It was an unforgettable experience, one that I’ll treasure forever.
